On Thursday, July 11, 2024, Peoria County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly member meeting at the Peoria PublicLibrary North Branch featuring Laura Street Chaplin, owner of https://www.willowtreeresearch.com.

The first step in successful research is to have a workable organization system. Who wants to spend all their time trying to locate something you KNOW you’ve seen? This presentation demonstrates a Color-Coded system based on the FamilyRoots Organizer long taught by Mary Hill. Assign one color to each grandparent, match your document folders to that color, and follow a simple method to get organized and stay that way. This is making a positive difference in Laura’s own filing madness! Establish your filing system with a good method, in a good way, and you’ll reap the rewards forever!

Laura is currently living in Sugar Grove, Illinois, and was raised in southeastern Iowa and has lived all around the Midwest: Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio. She and her husband were inspired by the “Roots” miniseries in college, which began a lifelong love of research and genealogical learning, raising their three daughters tramping through graveyards – now with 6 grandkids in training.

Laura is a former History & Genealogy Manager at the Lawrence J. Martin Heritage Center in Elburn, IL. She is a member of the APG, GSG, Board member for the Kane County Genealogical Society, a Director on the Governing Board for the Illinois State Genealogical Society, and a member of several local societies.

Program will also be offered virtually via Zoom at 6:00 PM. To join via Zoom, register at:
