From late December through early March, hundreds of American Bald Eagles grace the skies along the Illinois River, creating a breathtaking winter spectacle. To celebrate and promote awareness of this remarkable wildlife, the Rotary Club of Chillicothe and the Lions Club will host their annual Eagle Watch Breakfast on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shore Acres Clubhouse, 100 Park Blvd, Chillicothe, Illinois.
The event offers more than just a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast. Families can enjoy a children’s storytelling session and a captivating live Feathered Friends exhibit presented by Wildlife Prairie Park. The Audubon Society will also be on-site with spotting scopes, binoculars, and educational materials to enhance your eagle-watching experience. Additionally, Illinois River wildlife photographer Jami Haffner will share fascinating eagle facts, along with stunning photographs showcasing the river’s vibrant ecosystem.
The Chillicothe Public Library is holding an “Eagles” & “Life on the Illinois River” photo and art contest. The contest winners will be displayed during the breakfast and winners announced at 10:00am. All entries will be on display at the Chillicothe Public Library from February 3-February 28, 2025.
The event is sponsored by CEFCU, Riverside Chevrolet, Arc at Chillicothe, Chillicothe Park District and the City of Chillicothe Marketing & Tourism Commission.
Whether you’re an avid birdwatcher or simply looking for a fun family outing, the Eagle Watch Breakfast provides a perfect blend of food, education, nature and community.
