Details

Seventy years ago, the pianist/composer Horace Silver (1928-2014) helped create “hard bop,” a soulful and energetic style of jazz that, especially in Horace’s capable hands, manages to be both creative and accessible. Hard bop has remained one of the most popular styles of jazz ever since. In tribute to this milestone, Derel Monteith (piano) will lead a quintet through a set of Horace Silver compositions from that early, formative time. Joining Derel will be Matt Buczko (trumpet), Joel Linscheid (tenor saxophone), Andy Crawford (bass), and Jason Brannon (drums). Don’t miss it!

The ever-popular CIJS House Band under the leadership of Larry Harms kicks off the evening, featuring a selection of the most outstanding jazz musicians from the area. They present a variety of jazz standards and other popular arrangements.
