The present St. John the Baptist church building was built in 1921 following a devastating fire to the previous structure and then dedicated in 1923. This church building is considered to be an architectural treasure such as would not be found in many much larger cities. It is a graceful composite of Italian Renaissance, Romanesque and Spanish Gothic architecture. The exterior is constructed of white pressed brick with trimmings of white cut stone. The 160 foot bell tower can be seen for miles. The vestibule, entered from the south, has a mosaic floor. A large staircase leads to the choir loft and pipe organ. At the west end of the vestibule is a Baptismal room in honor of the patron of the church.

The stained glass windows, crafted in Germany, were donated by organizations and individuals. The main altar made of fine white marble came from Carrara, Italy.
