Did you know the oldest and largest Illinois park district is in Peoria? With 66 acres of parkland per 1,000 residents, there is always more to explore with the Peoria Park District. Here is a brief introduction to help you make use of the district’s excellent resources.

PARKS  //  You’ll find plenty of hiking trails, playgrounds, and picnic sites at the district’s 29 parks. Donovan Park is a diverse favorite with walking trails along restored prairies, sculpture garden, fishing ponds and Cyd’s gourmet restaurant. For the athletic type, Detweiller Park has spaces for soccer, volleyball, biking, hiking and more.  Peoria is also known for having the “world’s most beautiful drive” at Grandview Drive and Park overlooking the Illinois river bluffs. You’ll find something unique at each park, from the waterfall at Rocky Glen Park to the Japanese bridge at Bradley Park

FACILITIES  //  You don’t have to go to Chicago or St. Louis for a zoo, children’s museum and botanical garden – Peoria Park District has all these and more. Walk among the lions, zebras and giraffes at Peoria Zoo's immersive Africa exhibit. Little ones can explore three floors of hands-on fun at the Peoria Playhouse Children's Museum. Nearby you can relax among the beautiful plants at Luthy Botanical Garden. Other facilities include family favorites such as Bicycle Safety Town and the RiverPlex Recreation & Wellness Center

EVENTS + FESTIVALS  //  Perhaps you don’t associate a park district with live music or great food and drinks, but you should! Visit the Parks on Tap traveling taphouse as a warm-up to Oktoberfest. Taste different cultures at India Fest and Irish Fest. Find inspiration at Yoga in the Park or the Fine Art Fair.

GOLF  //  Peoria Park District has a golf course for all skill levels. If you are brand new to golf, get a lesson or practice your swing at the Golf Learning Center. Just across the road you can test your skills at Kellogg Golf Course's 9-hole executive course that is great for beginners. Another level course with few hazards is Madison Golf Course. When you are ready for steeper terrain, deep bunkers and mature trees,  play Newman Golf Course.

PROGRAMS  //  Explore the many youth and adult programs fostering well-being and connection. Want to explore nature? Have an artistic side? Prefer friendly competition? There are programs for all ages and interests through the Peoria Park District!
