The Junior League of Peoria is an organization of approximately 400 active and sustaining members. Since 1936, the League has been committed to promoting voluntarism and to improving the Peoria community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Peoria Race for the Cure, Family House, Riverfront Playground, JULEP’s Closet, Christmas in April, and Keepsacks for Kids are just a few of the past projects attributed to the League’s dedication to the community.
The League is undertaking is biggest project to date in The Peoria PlayHouse. The Peoria PlayHouse is a children’s museum that will prepare every young child to learn by offering the hands-on experiences essential for healthy brain development. It will feature interactive exhibits and programs that strengthen families and complement formal education, ensuring that all children are stimulated to participate and learn. Positive learning experiences instill in children a lifelong love of learning, and encourage an appreciation of cultural institutions as they mature.
The Junior League of Peoria is a member of The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), a global organization that encompasses over 193,000 members. The Junior League’s purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Membership is open to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
