Located about 30 minutes from Peoria, Eureka, IL is the kind of small town that makes you want to put your
phone away for a while and just enjoy where you are. Between the local restaurants and shops, lakeside views,
and hidden gems tucked throughout town, it ended up being one of the most wholesome little day trips we’ve
taken in Central Illinois.
If you’re looking for a Saturday itinerary that feels relaxed, nostalgic, and easy to do as a couple, here’s exactly
how we’d spend a day in Eureka.
Start Your Morning at Faire Coffee
Faire Coffee immediately set our tone for the entire day. Located right in downtown Eureka, this local shop feels
warm and inviting the second you walk through the doors. The seating is comfortable and there’s a calm
atmosphere that makes you want to linger for a while instead of rushing back out the door.
One thing we loved most was how creative the menu felt. They have seasonal drinks, unique flavor
combinations, breakfast options, and plenty of little details that make the experience feel thoughtful and
intentional. It’s also the kind of coffee shop where you can tell people genuinely gather. Friends chatting over
breakfast, girls doing Bible study together — it had that small-town community feel that’s getting harder to find.
Spend the Morning Exploring Main Street
After coffee, we spent the morning wandering through the local shops along Main Street, and this ended up
being one of our favorite parts of the entire day just, mainly because of how sweet and friendly the locals were!
Our two favorite stops were Objects and Bee’s Knees on Main.
Objects felt like every shelf had something unexpected. The owner hand-picks her antique selection, and also
has home décor, vintage-inspired pieces, antiques, little gifts, candles, seasonal items. Bee’s Knees on Main had
a similarly cozy atmosphere with plenty of gifts, handmade items, cards, and little treasures that would make
perfect presents or impulse purchases for yourself.
If you enjoy antiquing, boutique shopping, or simply spending time wandering through small-town storefronts,
you could easily spend a couple hours downtown!

Step Back in Time at the Classic Pizza Hut
One of the most unique parts of Eureka is something we genuinely did not expect to love as much as we did: the
classic Pizza Hut location. If you grew up in the Midwest during the 90s or early 2000s, this stop feels like
stepping directly back into childhood.
Eureka is home to one of the last classic Pizza Hut locations in Illinois that still looks like the ORIGINAL inside.
We’re talking the iconic hanging lamps, red plastic cups, checkered tablecloths, the classic booths, and the
buffet.
Naturally, we had to order personal pan pizzas because it immediately brought us back to Book-It nights as kids.
Even if you’re not normally a Pizza Hut person, this stop is worth it for the nostalgia alone.
Have a Picnic at Eureka Lake
After grabbing our pizzas, we took them over to Eureka Lake for a picnic lunch by the water. The lake area is
quiet, scenic, and incredibly relaxing. We found a spot near the dock and just sat for a while eating pizza. If the
weather is nice, we highly recommend building extra time into your itinerary here instead of rushing to the next
stop. There are places to walk, benches, and a playground for kiddos.
Stop at Braker’s Market
Make sure to stop into Braker’s Market next. We absolutely love small-town grocery stores. Braker’s had local
goods, specialty items, snacks, baked treats, frozen meals, and all kinds of small gifts. One of our favorite finds
was their frozen meal prep kits. These are the kind of easy, homemade-style dinners that make weeknights so
much easier, and we immediately wished we had stocked up on more before leaving.

Don’t Skip Busy Corner Pie in Nearby Goodfield
If you have extra time, make the short drive to nearby Goodfield and stop at Busy Corner Restaurant. This place
is well-known locally for their pie, and after trying it ourselves, we completely understand why. We ordered the
Triple Berry and Banana Crème pies and both were incredible. The portions were huge, the crust tasted
homemade, and the whole restaurant had that classic Midwest comfort-food atmosphere that makes you feel at
home. People have been visiting Busy Corner for generations, and those places are always some of our favorite
ones to experience while traveling around Illinois.
Explore Eureka’s Local History
Eureka also has several spots worth visiting if you enjoy local history and slower-paced exploring. You can spend
some time walking around the courthouse grounds downtown, admiring the historic architecture, or stop into the
Ronald Reagan Museum to learn more about the area’s connection to the former president.

End the Day at The Pickled Radish
For dinner, we highly recommend ending your day at The Pickled Radish. This restaurant has a cozy atmosphere
that feels elevated without being overly formal (in the old Chanticleer building). It’s comfortable, welcoming, and
the menu leans into elevated comfort food, and everything we tried felt thoughtful and well-prepared. The
standout for us was the heritage pork belly, which was genuinely one of the best dishes we’ve had in a while!
This felt like the perfect dinner spot for a date night or slower evening together.
Finish the Night at Wendy Puff
If you’re not quite ready to head home yet, finish the night with drinks at Wendy Puff. While they’re known for
pizza during the day, we really enjoyed simply sitting at the bar for a while and soaking in the atmosphere. It felt
relaxed, local, and unpretentious in the best way. Places like this are part of why we love exploring small
Midwest towns so much. There’s a comfort to them that’s hard to explain until you experience it yourself.
Why Eureka Is Worth the Drive
Eureka reminded us that great day trips don’t always need huge attractions or packed itineraries! Sometimes all
you really need is a cozy coffee shop, a walkable downtown, nostalgic pizza, a lakeside picnic, homemade pie, and a few local businesses that make a town feel alive. Central Illinois is full of places like this if you’re willing to
slow down and explore them!
