Dates: Opens January 31
In 2026, the Museum is going big for America 250 with a yearlong lineup of exhibitions and programs exploring American art, science, history, and achievement. The Promise of Liberty is the anchor exhibition of the museum’s America 250 celebration and is guest curated by documentary filmmaker Ken Burns. - Expect an extraordinary collection of historic documents, art, and artifacts, including highlights like:
- A 1776 printing of the Declaration of Independence
- A copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech
- George Washington’s first presidential Thanksgiving proclamation
