Summers in Greater Peoria can get pretty hot. Luckily, our surrounding region has plenty of poolside opportunities to beat the summer heat! Dip your toes or dive into these great splash pads.
Harry LaHood Park (Washington) — This park offers fun for all ages, featuring a splash pad, a kid-friendly playground, and a full basketball court. It also serves as a trailhead for the Washington Recreation Trail, making it a perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts. With ample open space and convenient parking, it’s a great spot for families and community gatherings.
Pekin Park District (Pekin) — A peaceful spot for a day of water fun, this hidden gem offers paddleboat and kayak rentals, surrounded by parkland perfect for picnics. Discover more about the “Marigold Capitol of the World.”
Riverfront Splash Pad (Pekin) — This splash pad operates with normal hours from 10a-2p and 4-8p daily, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Depending on the weather, the splash pad may be open past Labor Day with shorter hours.
Santa Fe Park and Splash Pad (Chillicothe) — This park is packed with features and train-themed décor. A list of offerings at Santa Fe Park includes 1/4 mile walking path, splash pad, pavilion, sledding hill, restroom facility, sandlot baseball diamond, thirty-foot tall twisty slide, and train engine playground.



Lakes + Riverfronts
Chillicothe + Lacon Riverfronts — Both Chillicothe and Lacon offer charming small-town riverfronts along the Illinois River. These spots are popular for boating, fishing, and riverside picnics. Lacon Marina provides boat slips and a launch, while both communities host seasonal riverfront events that bring locals and visitors together.

Rice Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area (Canton) — This is a 5,660-acre state wildlife area comprised of multiple lakes and part of an extensive backwater wetland area with multiple access points. It's perfect for fishing, hunting, and seeing wildlife!
Wildlife Prairie Park (Hanna City) — While not a lake destination, Wildlife Prairie Park offers small fishing ponds and paddling activities in a beautiful setting.
